Red Sox sign top Draft pick Jake Schaffner using 'off the wall' strategy

Less than a week after the Red Sox selected Jake Schaffner with a first-round Draft pick they knew would be viewed as “very off the wall,” the club officially signed the North Carolina Tar Heels shortstop on Friday. Per MLB Pipeline’s Jim Callis, the elite contact hitter with plus-speed signed for $2 million -- well below the slot value of $4,373,900. (MLB.com)
