Seventeen years ago at the Final Four in Indianapolis, Roy Williams was chagrined at the hype about "The Pupil vs. The Mentor." As Williams faces another awkward week before coaching North Carolina against Kansas on Saturday in the Final Four, the lesson from 1991 looms. The media played up Williams' NCAA semifinal meeting with his mentor, Dean Smith. Three years earlier, Williams had left Smith and the Tar Heels for his first head coaching job at Kansas.
