LSU Tiger-Tar Heel Ties: You’ve got to go back in time to find them. The teams haven’t met since Dec. 19, 1996, when UNC beat the Tigers in Greensboro. It turned out to be the final season for the two legendary coaches, Dale Brown and Dean Smith. In 1998, current LSU coach Trent Johnson and the Tar Heels were in the Final Four in San Antonio. Johnson was an assistant at Stanford, which, like UNC, fell in the semifinals. (ACC Sports Journal)
