Around the Bases: Colin Bates
Posted Apr 22, 2009
Inside Carolina caught up with closer Colin Bates after he pitched a 3.1-inning save in the Tar Heels' 7-5 win over UNCW on Tuesday night. Bates struck out three batters and allowed just one base runner. "He just hung a slider," head coach Mike Fox said of the only baserunner Bates allowed, which came against the first batter he faced. "After that, boy he settled in. Somebody told me that of his last 32 pitches, 29 of them were strikes."
