With Selection of Nicks, Giants Move On From Burress

The Giants insisted that they were not looking for only a wide receiver when they chose Hakeem Nicks with their first pick of the N.F.L. draft Saturday. But Nicks, a wide receiver from North Carolina, was available at No. 29, and the Giants’ greatest need is at that position because they have cut Plaxico Burress and chosen not to retain Amani Toomer. So they selected Nicks and said they were happy. He said he was, too.
