Anoop Desai gets keys to the city

Donning his pink and teal kicks from his final American Idol appearance, Anoop Desai was all smiles Monday as he accepted a golden key to the city. “This man knows how to handle a mic,” Chapel Hill Mayor Kevin Foy said as he introduced the former Clef Hanger soloist. At a Town Council meeting, Foy proclaimed May 4, 2009, as “Anoop Desai Day” to honor the first contestant in American Idol’s history to turn the Top 12 into the Top 13. Desai finished sixth in the competition. (Daily Tar Heel)
