Donavan Tate leaves UNC football program

Donavan Tate has left the UNC football program. A UNC spokesman says the freshman quarterback was not at practice Wednesday and will likely sign a professional baseball contract with the San Diego Padres. The Padres selected Tate as the number three overall pick in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft in June. He attended football practice Tuesday but was not in pads.
