When team captains walk to Gampel Pavilion’s center court today prior to the start of the nationally televised women’s basketball game between No. 1 UConn and No. 7 North Carolina, Jessica Breland will be one of the players representing the Tar Heels. Six months ago, that wouldn’t have surprised anyone. The 6-foot-2 senior forward, after all, was widely recognized as Carolina’s best player.
