Erik Highsmith remembers the confusion he felt in all those chaotic moments just before the snap. Thrown directly from the high-school ranks onto the field for North Carolina, he tried to see through the bluffs from the defense to recognize the coverage. He tried to keep his mind focused on his route or the block he would have to deliver downfield. "I'm a fast learner," Highsmith said, "but I really didn't know exactly what was going on."
