T.J. Yates enters his senior season as the returning starter at quarterback. His 5,959 career passing yards are second all-time among Tar Heel quarterbacks (Darian Durant is No. 1). He's smart and does an excellent job setting up opposing defenses into the coverage he wants with his pre-snap cadences and gestures, and coordinator John Shoop points to the kind of play he exhibited early in the 2008 season.
