UNC zeroes in on defensive coordinator

Minnesota defensive coordinator Everett Withers is expected to be hired in the same position at North Carolina this week, the Minneapolis-based Star-Tribune reported in today's editions. Withers, who grew up in Charlotte and played football at Appalachian State, spent one season with the Golden Gophers, who ranked 119th (dead last) in NCAA Division I-A last season in total defense (giving up 518.67 yards per game).
