T.J. Yates threw for 204 yards and a touchdown to lead the shorthanded Tar Heels to a 17-13 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Rutgers Stadium. Yates completed 22-of-30 pass attempts to pace the Tar Heels (1-2), who were minus 12 players, including seven starters, due to continuing investigations by the NCAA. Johnny White caught four passes for 63 yards for UNC, while adding 36 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
