With either team off to a 3-0 start, Heelan's two-time defending Class 3A state champs are a unanimous No. 1 pick in the AP's latest Class 3A poll conducted Monday. Meanwhile, East, which reached the state semifinals last winter, is rated No. 2 in Class 4A behind Linn-Mar and junior guard Marcus Paige, who returned from an unofficial visit to the University of North Carolina on Sunday with a scholarship offer from the Tar Heels of Coach Roy Williams.
