Maryland coaching uncertainty sways Travis Hughes to UNC
Posted Dec 19, 2010
Maryland was high on Travis Hughes' list because his brother, Trenton, is a defensive back for the Terrapins. But the family heard Friday night that Maryland head coach Ralph Friedgen was reportedly asked to retire or take a buyout. That shifted Hughes’ attention squarely to North Carolina and Virginia Tech. “I was kind of pulling toward Virginia Tech last night,” he said. “But my brother and my father ultimately said that North Carolina would be my best fit. In my heart, I knew it was North Carolina."
