When Kendall Marshall was in the seventh and eighth grades, he’d go to see Nolan Smith play in high school. The UNC rookie watched Smith struggle to find his role at Duke—and saw him use those setbacks as motivation to become the player he is today. And even as Smith was, frankly, kicking Marshall’s butt in the ACC title game, Marshall took mental notes.
