Defense a major factor in Tar Heels victory

North Carolina allowed an average of 85 points per game during its opening weekend in the NCAA tournament and yet the Tar Heels benefited from some clutch defense Sunday while marching deeper into March. Three critical steals – two key ones were swiped by Harrison Barnes – came in the final five minutes of North Carolina’s 86-83 victory against Washington and fueled a decisive 15-4 run at Time Warner Cable Arena.
