High school all-star Jackson Simmons will be UNC walk-on

Before he committed to play basketball at North Carolina as a preferred walk-on, Smoky Mountain High center happened to be a big Duke fan. Simmons, 6 feet 8 and 210 pounds, will play in the Jordan Brand Classic regional all-star game Saturday at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte against some of the best players from around the state. "Yeah," he said with a laugh, "I was a Duke fan until high school. I went through a stage, but I always admired how UNC played and always could imagine myself playing there."
