Coming into the afternoon, the Tar Heels were on a five-game ACC losing streak and on the verge of playing themselves out of the challenging Coastal Division race. They'd been outpitched by Miami in both games of a Saturday doubleheader, and needed Kent Emanuel to have a solid outing. (Tar Heel Blue)
