Time for growing up for P.J. Hairston


There were no training wheels on Walter’s bike the last time his big brother, P.J., returned home. The 6-year-old riding around in the driveway had shed those constraints of childhood a day earlier, and Samuel Peterson Hairston Jr., a North Carolina basketball signee and Greensboro’s second McDonald’s All-America , felt a bit wistful about missing the milestone, another sacrifice for his future.
