North Carolina thwarted Valparaiso’s stunning comeback last night with airtight defense after halftime and then sped away behind its break for a blistering 90-58 win at the Smith Center. Shutting down Valparaiso’s deadly 3-point shooting and getting an offensive spark from Danny Green, UNC generated a 27-2 scoring run in 7:42 that broke a 37-37 tie and provided an insurmountable 64-39 lead.
