NBPA Top 100 Camp Update: Marcus Smart & Tony Parker
Posted Jun 16, 2011
Here are just a couple of quick notes from recruiting analysts attending this week's NBPA Top 100 Camp involving 2012 shooting guard Marcus Smart and center Tony Parker.
It appears that 4-star center Tony Parker (Lithonia, GA) has fallen off of UNC's radar according to Northstar Basketball's Alex Schwartz via his Twitter account:
"Tony Parker said of his favs, 'OSU, Duke & Memphis are my top [schools]. Kansas & Texas are coming up." If he had to sign tomorrow? 'Ohio St'"
This is not a big surprise given that UNC has focused most of its energy recently in recruiting 5-star center Kaleb Tarczewski (Southborough, MA). Tarczewski visited UNC this week and by all accounts had an excellent time on his visit. Kansas is also a major contender for Tarczewski's services.
Marcus Smart also received positive reviews from recruiting analysts for his play at the NBPA Camp. ESPN analyst Dave Telep posted on Twitter that "Marcus Smart made a big impression on everyone in the building. Beast mode on the wing."
Tar Heel Illustrated analyst Clint Jackson followed suit by Tweeting, "First time seeing Marcus Smart today. Ultimate utility player. Alpha Male. Rebounds. Defends. Quick feet. Makes hustle plays."
Many who have seen Marcus Smart's highlight film compare him to recent UNC alum Marcus Ginyard in that he's a strong leader and team player who can fill a number of roles.
