It was ugly on the surface and downright hideous enough underneath that UNC should have made this move months ago, if not a year ago. But Thorp and athletic director Dick Baddour no longer could stand by Butch Davis, and Thursday morning in a press conference at the Friday Center, they did their best to explain why.
