North Carolina safety Jonathan Smith said it was difficult - for him, and two of his defensive teammates - to sit out last season because of suspensions related to the NCAA investigation into academic fraud and impermissible benefits. But in the end, their absence then might end up being a boon for the Tar Heels' secondary now. (Charlotte Observer)
