UNC interim head coach Everett Withers had said before the game that senior Casey Barth would get some help with the kicking duties because of a sore thigh (and he did, as Trace Jones and Thomas Moore handled the kickoffs). But it was somewhat of a surprise to see walk-on freshman Thomas Hibbard start at punter; he beat out sophomore C.J. Feagles.
