Surprise starter Bernard delivers for Tar Heels
Posted Sep 12, 2011
Each week there’s been one surprise starter for North Carolina. In Week 1 it was freshman walk-on Thomas Hibbard, who took over the punting duties from 2010 starter C.J. Feagles. On Saturday against Rutgers it was redshirt freshman Giovani Bernard, who replaced fifth-year senior Ryan Houston as the starting running back. Bernard justified the decision, running for two touchdowns — including an electrifying 60-yard run.
