Roy Williams offers 2012 C Joel James


According to Inside Carolina, UNC has extended a scholarship offer to 2012 center of Fort Lauderdale, Florida (Dwyer HS). James is rated a consensus 4-star prospect by all three major recruiting services: Rivals, Scout, and ESPN.

James becomes the fourth center in the 2012 class to receive a UNC offer. Last week, Iowa center Adam Woodbury decided to stay close to home, choosing in-state school Iowa over the Tar Heels. Also, early top target appears to have narrowed his choices to Kansas and Arizona, leaving UNC with just two active targets among 2012 big men: James and consensus 5-star post player .

There is obviously a strong need for post players in the 2012 class since UNC center is entering his senior season. And there is a good possibility that 6-11 junior could depart for the NBA a year early.

UNC currently has two commitments from the 2012 recruiting class: Iowa point guard and Wisconsin small forward . The remaining outstanding offers are held by small forward T.J. Warren and power forwards and .
