The five-turnover, nine-penalty day against Rutgers seemed like a distant memory. So did the seven sacks allowed last week at Georgia Tech. Instead, in the toughest environment it had played in so far, North Carolina played its cleanest game of the season in a 35-20 win Saturday night over East Carolina. Quarterback Bryn Renner wasn’t sacked, and for the first time he didn’t throw an interception.
