Everett Withers probably wasn’t going to get the job on a permanent basis, anyway. That ship almost certainly sailed the moment North Carolina’s interim football coach announced he was giving the game ball from his team’s season-opening win against James Madison to his recently fired predecessor Butch Davis. Whatever slim hopes still remained flew out the window this weekend. (Wilmington Star News)
