Former UNC coach Butch Davis had his sights set far beyond Raleigh and NCSU, but the problem is the bitterness in a rivalry such as this one can be capped for just so long. Now it has exploded in full force. Interim UNC coach Everett Withers took some shots at Wolfpack academics on the radio. O'Brien immediately retaliated with comments about Carolina's NCAA troubles. Naturally, both chancellors had to toss in some wimpy apologies.
