The Tar Heel freshmen had a solid first week of intercollegiate competition, led by James Michael McAdoo and P.J. Hairston, who have played a combined 46 minutes. Both made some positive contributions, including McAdoo hitting 62.5% of his field goals and Hairston draining a step-back three-pointer on the USS Carl Vinson that earned praise from the President of the United States.
