UNC’s Bernard wins Piccolo Award as ACC’s ‘most courageous’

Giovani Bernard had a lot in common with Brian Piccolo. They’re both talented ACC running backs. They both attended the same high school in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and both had their lives painfully altered by cancer. Friday, they added another bond when Bernard was named the recipient of the ACC’s Brian Piccolo Award, presented annually since 1972 to the league’s “most courageous” player.
