Mark J. Terrill boarded the USS Carl Vinson off San Diego on Nov. 11 (Veterans Day) around 6 a.m., lugging 70 pounds of gear. The Carrier Classic, an outdoor basketball game between North Carolina and Michigan State, wasn't scheduled to start until 4 p.m.
