Sources: SMU fires Matt Doherty after six seasons
Posted Mar 13, 2012
SMU fired men's basketball coach Matt Doherty this morning, according to sources close to the program. The news does not come as a surprise. Doherty was 80-109 in six seasons at SMU, capped by a frustrating 13-19 season that ended Wednesday in the first round of the Conference USA tournament. Doherty had one year remaining on his contract and is expected to walk with over $500,000.
