UNC basketball coaches bond forged from loyalty, triumph

It was the day before North Carolina left for St. Louis, for the NCAA tournament Midwest regional, and Bill Guthridge was in his office at the Smith Center, reminiscing and hoping for another trip to New Orleans, site of the Final Four. It was there where Dean Smith and Guthridge won their first national championship together, back in 1982. “We did have a lot of good March times,” Guthridge said, his voice softer with age but still strong.
