Austin Nichols: Commitments, offers part of courtship game

In the case of Briarcrest forward Austin Nichols, Duke and North Carolina kept tabs on the junior for two years before offering him. Nichols' father, Mark Nichols, said the differences between pre-offer interest and post-offer interest are stark. "(Coaches) stay on the phone with you longer, they get more personable with you," Mark Nichols said. "But Austin has made it easy for us. Probably 85 percent or more (staffs) have mentioned the word 'scholarship' (when offering)."
