Following his high school career, Billy Cunningham decided to accept a basketball scholarship to play at UNC. "Some guy named Dean Smith was the new coach. I didn’t know who he was and he didn’t know me.” That might have been the last time anyone from North Carolina wasn’t sure who Dean Smith was.
