It has been said often of Steve Spurrier that fans love him if he coaches on their sideline and despise him if he coaches on the opponent’s sideline. Little did any of the 46,000 at Kenan Stadium or any in the regional television audience that day know they were watching the seed being planted for that love-him-or-hate-him feeling toward Spurrier.
