New trio joins long list of Tar Heel injured

Starting safety Sam Smiley, who is second on the team with 23 tackles, and backup tight end Jack Tabb were both held out of practice Tuesday. During the opening 30 minutes, which is open to the media, Smiley and Tabb rode exercise bikes on the sideline alongside Jheranie Boyd, who missed last week’s game with a foot injury.
