Carolina beat the Pirates 27-6, evening their record at 2-2. Giovani Bernard played without straining the knee, gaining 50 yards against a defense aligned to stop the rush, catching six passes for 52 yards and scoring two touchdowns. ECU's fixation with Bernard created broader opportunities for Bryn Renner, who completed 27 of 43 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns.
