The Tar Heels played without Marcus Paige, the freshman who had started every game at point guard. In his absence, Dexter Strickland played point guard and Leslie McDonald entered the starting lineup. He led UNC with 24 points, a career high, while Strickland had a career-high nine assists. Reggie Bullock added 17 points and P.J. Hairston had 16 for the Heels.
