While North Carolina basketball coach Roy Williams braced himself in April for a phone call informing him he was not Hall of Fame ready, his mentor Dean Smith wondered what was taking so long for the Hall to recognize Williams’ credentials. The two sat side-by-side at a news conference Wednesday, chuckling over old stories and trying to put in context Williams’ career.
