Butch Davis gave fans something they hadn't seen since Mack Brown

gave Tar Heels fans an impressive first glimpse at the team he inherited 10 months ago. No matter the opponent – and in this case it was FCS member James Madison – Davis could not afford to lose Saturday. Davis and the Tar Heels had to make a strong statement in front of the Kenan Stadium crowd. Davis showed he picked the right quarterback – redshirt freshman – who threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-14 victory. (Rocky Mount Telegram)
