A group of five unproven, mostly unknown players entered N.C. State’s preseason football camp in 2008 competing with one another for the starting quarterback job. was an intense battle in which a redshirt freshman named Russell Wilson rose above the rest to beat out teammates Mike Glennon, Daniel Evans, Harrison Beck and Justin Burke.
