Tar Heels will open without veterans

North Carolina will start the men’s basketball season tonight without two of the most experienced players in the program as the school awaits the outcome of an ongoing process with the NCAA. Junior guard P.J. Hairston, the team’s top scorer last season, and senior guard Leslie McDonald will be spectators. “It is frustrating,” coach Roy Williams said Thursday.
