Straight into the firing line


There are not many sports that expect a young prospect to go right from the crucible of a high-pressure college season straight into pro play. Baseball is one of those sports, and insists it's just fine with him. Just a little over a week ago, the Vancouver Canadians' new shortstop was in Omaha, Neb., with his UNC Tar Heels team playing the NCAA College World Series championship game against the Oregon State Beavers.
