Roy Williams on the recruiting trail Friday
Posted Feb 8, 2014
Roy Williams took a detour Friday night on his way to South Bend, Indiana where the Tar Heels will take on Notre Dame Saturday. Williams stopped in Racine, Wisconsin to watch 2015 5-star center Diamond Stone and his Dominican high school team take on St. Catherine's. Stone dominated the game scoring 34 points in his team's 50-47 road win.
Stone is one of three centers in UNC's 2015 basketball recruiting class with a scholarship offer from Williams, joining Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) teammates Stephen Zimmerman and Chase Jeter. Stone also has offers from Duke, Marquette, Wisconsin, UCLA, and Arizona, among others.
Based on predictions from 247 Sports basketball recruiting analysts, home-state school Marquette seems to be the team to beat at this point. But it's still early in the recruiting process, and it's clear that a center in UNC's 2015 class is a top priority for Williams.
