Suddenly, there was bedlam in Boshamer Stadium. And Andrew Carignan was at the bottom of it, on the ground beneath a pile of celebrating teammates near the pitcher's mound, where moments earlier he had ruled. The UNC closer took the clout out of South Carolina's bats, pitching four shutout innings and helping the Tar Heels win the super regional with a 9-4 comeback victory and earn a return trip to the College World Series.
