USC needs long outing from Hempy

South Carolina will turn to left-hander Arik Hempy today to try and keep its season alive. He could help out the most by staying in the game awhile. The Gamecocks made liberal use of their bullpen in Friday’s 9-6 loss to North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament Super Regionals. And at least one of the team’s most reliable relievers will probably be unavailable today. Junior right-hander Curtis Johnson made 44 pitches while facing eight batters over about one inning.
