UNC defeated Virginia, 4-2 on Sunday, fending off the country’s No. 1 team, thanks to a two-run home run from junior shortstop Michael Russell in the fifth that broke a 1-1 tie. It was the first lead for UNC in a tightly contested series, and the Tar Heels didn’t relinquish it. “We just need to go out there and have fun and play the game,” said freshman second baseman Wood Myers after the win.
