UNC Leaning Hard On Boosters

The idea of major college athletic programs relying on big money from their supporters is nothing new, but North Carolina recently crossed a new threshold with its lucrative contracts for men's basketball coach Roy Williams and football coach Butch Davis. The amount of money in Williams' new, $20 million-plus deal that will be raised separately by UNC's booster-club, known as the Educational Foundation or the Rams Club, is more than four times the amount that will come directly from the university in the form of base salary.
